Contrary to what their CEO was telling only last week, the Amiga, Inc. partner Corel is in serious financial difficulties. They told the US Security and Exchange Commission that their cash pile will be in the red by half a million dollars by the end of August. This means the company is forced to cut down on its operations and staff in order to survive. Here's a link to The Register's story.

Please all welcome Teemu I. Yliselä as contributor. He has direct access to the main submit script, and you should begin seeing more activity from the both of us. I'm still searching for one or more other contributors, especially for the Aminet Files and Websites sections. I'm also accepting email submissions again, but I'd really prefer if you could use the Unmoderated section instead. The Notify script is also being used more often again. I'm at around 715 subscribers, down from an all-time hight of about 750.

The UGN in conjunction with Amiga Inc., AmiWest 2000 and
FortWaynemusic.com is proud to announce the second official live audio broadcast from an US Amiga show: July 29th and 30th! Starting in 1998 from the Amiga International show, the UGN has provided live webcam and Internet Relay Chat (IRC) from Amiga conventions world wide. It has been our goal to enhance our informational feeds to include audio since that very first show. At AmiWest 2000, the audio feed will once again become a reality!

Remember InsideOut, the Amiga-on-a-PCI-card project which was developed by Index a few years ago? Mick Tinker has now posted an update on its status on his homepage here. Apparently the card got quite far in development, and Mick might consider finishing it after the BoXeR is out.

[News] Now it's France vs Bill Gates | ANN.lu |
Posted on 19-Jul-2000 12:10 GMT by Haider Tuaima | 10 comments View flat View list |
France wants to drop Microsoft OS in favour of Linux 'cause of it's open source nature. The French government is realy serious about this. This article explains what's happening. Maybe this is not directly affecting Amiga, but I do think it affects it indirectly since the goal is non-Microsoft OS, and the fact that Amiga can be happily hosted by Linux. 8^)
