nasty little scheme. Neither GW nor AOL give a rat's arse about "empowering"
their users or improving life through technology. AOLtv, or whatever it's going
to be called, is simply another step toward the transformation of the internet
into one big shopping mall. All they see are the $$$$$$$ they hope to earn from
legions of lobotomised banner clickers wading neck deep in "mutably transparent
interfaces" of Havemose and co.'s design. Like I want a pop-up banner that can
follow me from room to room, from tele to toaster to laptop to wristwatch. Is
that their "revolution" or is it going to be the cause of one? It's telling
that in all of this talk of bandwidth coming into our homes that little concern
seems to be given to the bandwidth leading away from them. Empowerment my ....! |
