SiN progress report : Comment 6 of 6 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Cartman on 01-May-2000 22:00 GMT | In reply to Comment 5 (Ben Hermans/Hyperion): If you look at the Boxer with its PCI slots, there really shouldn't be a problem with new cards anymore as it will be able to use industry standard PCI cards from the PC world. All you'd need would be drivers rewritten for AmigaDOS. nVidia TNT2 PCI cards are available today. And as for the lousy framerates achieved by the Permedia2 cards, it must be badly written drivers or lousy card design. The Permedia2 chip should yield a performance equal to the Voodoo2 chipset, which can easily achieve 25+ FPS in 800x600 resolution on a PC in more recent games (Unreal Tournament, Half-Life etc.) A GLQuake benchmark on a Pentium 233MMX (which roughly equals a 240 MHz 603e) returned around 62 frames in 640x480 resolution with an 8 Mb Voodoo2 PCI card. Under Quake II this dropped to 26-27 frames, which still is satifactory). With a G3/G4 card these numbers should improve. |
