The Hyperion Software page has the announcement
that they will be porting Raven Software's mercenary first-person shooter to the Amiga and Mac platforms, both
ports expected by the end of this year.

Actually, you are wrong. The Q2 engine has actual additions that will make it
faster for some things than the Quake 1 engine. This additional performance
is used for more geometry usually, so it *appears* to be slower. But it added
visibility portals, which greatly reduce the number of polygons in the PVS.
It *does* feature more advanced model animation stuff, so that you can
interpolate between frames ("morph targets"), but then Heretic II uses
its own model system (flex models) based on skeletal animation.
