Hyperion software will port Soldier of Fortune to Amiga and Mac : Comment 8 of 66 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Remco Komduur on 11-Jun-2000 22:00 GMT | In reply to Comment 3 (Chris Roccati): 3D cards use far less data to display because all the textures are in the graphic card memory. Basicly you are only sending wire frames with some extra info, so the transfer to the video card is far less important.
A VooDoo 3 card will at least produce 24 FPS in 1024 x 768 on my 603 e / 240 MHz because I get this in 400 x 300 on the Permedia 2. You don't send any extra information in 1024 x 768 than you do in 400 x 300. That's how 3D works!!!!
When I had a 233 MMX with VooDoo 2 cards in SLI mode I got 28 FPS in 640 x 480, 800 x 600 and 1024 x 768. The only thing that is important is the fill rate( that is absolutely pathetic on the Permedia 2) and that all the needed 3D functions are also available( which the Permedia 2 also doesn't have). Because they have to be emulated right now for the Permedia 2 and 3DFX have a reputation of getting somewhat better speed than other manufacturers, the frame rate is actually likely to rise somewhat more. You actually don't need more than 30 FPS to play a game correctly. We are not far off.
Regards,
Remco |
