Well, I hate to correct people on stuff like this but... X is not a GUI!!! With it, you can have a gui running on your un*x box, but X is just a protocol for communication between the X Window Server(s) (i.e. what displays the images) and the X Window Client(s) (the programs which you run). A big difference.
