France wants to drop Microsoft OS in favour of Linux 'cause of it's open source nature. The French government is realy serious about this. This article explains what's happening. Maybe this is not directly affecting Amiga, but I do think it affects it indirectly since the goal is non-Microsoft OS, and the fact that Amiga can be happily hosted by Linux. 8^)

Now it's France vs Bill Gates : Comment 2 of 10 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Colin Wilson on 18-Jul-2000 22:00 GMT | Think again about the ramifications of this - Tao *may* run on top of Linux, but they are looking to ditch any software they do not have the source to...
Tao is not open source, and therefore would not be permissable under the original reasons for going over to Linux, which was for all government computers to run open source to make sure no NSA style backdoors could be included...
If the general public is also moved over to open source, fine, but I doubt that it would be legal to restrict M$ from selling their products there. |
