Contrary to what their CEO was telling only last week, the Amiga, Inc. partner Corel is in serious financial difficulties. They told the US Security and Exchange Commission that their cash pile will be in the red by half a million dollars by the end of August. This means the company is forced to cut down on its operations and staff in order to survive. Here's a link to The Register's story.

Corel in deep...trouble : Comment 4 of 4 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Pierre Narcisse on 20-Jul-2000 22:00 GMT | In reply to Comment 3 (Stephen Sweeney): Microsoft is why Corel is going under. How many people do you know that use perfect office in the buisness world or even Loutus 1-2-3? With Microsloth owning the Os on the desktop they get to hone their word processor, Word, to work directly and functionly well, as well as their other apps like Excel and Powerpoint, on the Windows OS. Take the fact that they also bundel their apps with every PC that is purchased. Tell me who's going to go out and pick up perfect office 2000 or lotus office for $299 a pop. This is why the justice department and the us courts should break up Microsloth. They just cant own it all Both the Os and then the apps. If they continue to then we will see all other app developers go under. Remember Netscape? how long before they creat an app that competes directly with Adobe photoshop, premire, after effects etc..
That is why we need an alternitve Os like NG Amiga that can run on all platforms and hosted and none hosted to break the dependency on Winblows. |
