Amiga have just released this press release about the AmigaOne hardware spec. Eyetech will build the first actual boxes, which are Classic Amiga/AmigaOne hybrids (both A1200 and A4000-based models will be available) and will be based on PPC. They are scheduled for a Q1 2001 release. First stand-alone AmigaOnes should ship in Q3 2001. Also, the development of the Classic AmigaOS will continue with v3.9 coming out before Christmas.

Amiga announces the AmigaOne : Comment 33 of 119 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Chris Moore on 20-Oct-2000 22:00 GMT | Maybe I'm missing something, but if the new AmigaOE is being developed
on x86 boxes, then why would it be so hard to bring out AmigaOnes that
are basically PCs with the Matrox card in them? I for one would be
happier spending £600 on a brand new PC than bolt anything else onto
my ageing A1200.
I own a Z4 tower from eyetech with the Z4 bus and a CV64/3D in it.
To upgrade to an AmigaOne would mean firstly getting a PPC card (about
300 quid), the predator board (God knows how much that will cost), the
new Matrox graphics card and that sound card plus more ram and
whatever else to have a bodgy system.
I would much rather spend the money on an x86 box. |
