Amiga have just released this press release about the AmigaOne hardware spec. Eyetech will build the first actual boxes, which are Classic Amiga/AmigaOne hybrids (both A1200 and A4000-based models will be available) and will be based on PPC. They are scheduled for a Q1 2001 release. First stand-alone AmigaOnes should ship in Q3 2001. Also, the development of the Classic AmigaOS will continue with v3.9 coming out before Christmas.

Amiga announces the AmigaOne : Comment 9 of 119 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Joe "Floid" Kanowitz on 20-Oct-2000 22:00 GMT | Personally, I'm happy that Amiga, Inc. has offered the upgrade path that so many users have demanded, but perhaps a bit let down that standalone hardware will be delayed until a later date.
I'm also hoping that the listed "spec" has some actual meat behind it; I see a basic list of processor and memory/storage requirements, but I assume there should be more to it than that... I expected the "spec" we've heard so much about to be either for an individual machine (full hardware reference design), or a list of what surrounding architectures (chipsets and whatnot) would be supported for each supported processor... Still, I'm sure we'll be hearing more about all this in the next month or so.
Congrats to the guys in Snoqualmie for reaching another milestone, in any case! |
