In reply to Comment 1 (MAS):
I agree.. that old window bar look should be scrapped for something more attractive/configurable (like birdie/visualprefs).
Os3.5 was meant to bring a lot of new features that users added by installing patches and hacks. However I reckon it severely lacked a lot of stuff that a lot of people use. I for one only deleted a single patch from my startup when I switched to os3.5.. newicons.
I think if they want people to rush out and get 3.9, they should think about integrating some more of the patches ; Visualprefs, Birdie, MRQ , Freewheel, kingCon, magicmenu...etc. The user wouldn't need to actually use them if he/she didnt want to, but they'd be there for people who cant live without them.. eg: me :o))
The point being, I found 3.5 very stable until I started adding kludges here and there, then the crashes started. It also makes boot time much longer when I've got about 6 or 7 extra programs to load.
On top of that, I'd love to see a big update in the listers / icon display. The standard listers are very bland & unconfigurable, something more along the lines of the Magellan Listers would be great (I love having popup menus for files). Also, the icon display is still quite slow, I get a lot of disk churning when opening a window with lots of files in it. Even windows doesnt do that :)
I think 'Preferences' is the magic word here, I'd love to be able to change *everything* about my desktop.. one of the things I loved about the amiga compared to other OS's in the first place.
