3Dfx dissolves, sells assets to NVidia : Comment 3 of 3 | ANN.lu |
Posted by XDelusion on 18-Dec-2000 23:00 GMT | Well this could be sad if it effects the open source of the drivers, then again I have had my VooDoo 3 2000 in my Linux box for ever now, and still you have to choose either Drivers that work ok with most games, but lack hardware acceleration, and give good 2D performance, or drivers that give the 2D performance a blow, and are incompatable with all but Q3. This open source shit is gay, seems work is done faster by commercial groups as opposed to open source as it seems. Hell Linux has been around for years now, and it is far from Desktop friendly, and it's drivers for most things suck, now just imagine...
Amiga DE is not even out yet. :/ Long road ahead.
Anyhow 3DFX may not be the best, but in Winblows they give me the most compatability, the least troubles, and more options to new worlds such as N64 emulators and crap that I can not use with other GFX Cards such as NVIDIA. SO perhaps NVIDIA will use this as an opportunity to work towards bringing the best of two worlds together so we have less bugs, more compatability, and better GFX. Who knows? |
