AmiRaoul wrote: Mr. Fleecy Moss, Vice President of Product Development for Amiga Inc. posted on the amigaone ML over the subject of what graphic cards AmigaOne will support: "It is the next generation card that Matrox develop. However, all that means is that for Amiga products, that is the only card we will support WHEN it comes out, and we cannot at this time reveal that information. The G450 will be supported, and I believe Eyetech have arranged for the V3 to also be supported."

Fleecy: AmigaOne supported gfx cards : Comment 3 of 31 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Casey R Williams on 25-Mar-2001 22:00 GMT | In reply to Comment 1 (m0ns00n): Or maybe there just happens to be one or more characteristics of Matrox's hw that Amiga feel need to be stressed in order to establish an identity. If they had chosen nVidia as did Microsoft with Xbox, it would be for the sake of their GPU and programmable shaders. Or had it been ATI, as when Amiga were under Gateway, it would indicate an emphasis on DVD and significant 3D strength. By choosing Matrox, it would seem Amiga are attracted to the idea of multiple monitor support and a reputation for exceptional image clarity. Perhaps there will be other cutting edge features in the Matrox hw that other companies simply just don't yet offer. Besides, it's like a nice hybrid of custom and off-the-shelf to allow a company like Matrox (for example) to develop its hw as it prefers without having to worry about what Microsoft and the other chip makers are doing in a seperate (Wintel) market. |
