Fleecy is giving specifications on what to expect in future AmigaOS versions.
A brand new, written from scratch TCP/IP stack,
Virtual Memory will come in OS4,
the Amiga Component Model will give resource tracking,
OS5 will bring SMP,
an ACM and streaming system will bring a new datatypes system,
the Audio system will be the best of any system out there. [They] have 5 of the best audio people in the world working on it.
Closely-integrated 2D and 3D API are already underway, and with [their] close alliance with Matrox, there will be not only standard high level APIs but GLIDE like low level APIs to really take advantage of Matrox cards.
A a new Workbench, an improved intuition.library will come in AmigaOS 4.5, hardware-independancy and probably a new printer system in 4.2 and a new filesystem in 4.0.

Fleecy: What to expect in future AmigaOS versions : Comment 7 of 12 | ANN.lu |
Posted by leon r. Tan on 01-Apr-2001 22:00 GMT | A new Intuition library? Does this change the look and feel of old plain workbench? If so, I really like to see some PPC Dopus things in there, like
improved file-listers. Like any 'modern' OS, you'll have to work within the first public screen, instead firing up Diskmaster to do your stuff. Nothing against Diskmaster though :-) |
