As a few might have noticed, I safely returned from my three-week trip from the United States. However, things will remain pretty busy in my life, since starting tomorrow, and for the next two weeks to come, I will return to my former fulltime job to help them out during the holiday season. On top of that, I will work at my freelance workplace on two evenings and on weekends, which leaves me with very little free time on my hands. So that people don't complain that I'm only complaining in these MOTD's (even when they can opt out), I fixed a few minor inconveniences in the display settings/cookies handling, and revised the poll script to finally show results in the new layout. Take a look and comment before this fully replaces the old version. Before wrapping this up, I'd like to thank everybody for keeping ANN more or less updated during the time I was away. Please keep it up. :)

I was planning to write an extensive trip report, but with a >50hour work week it doesn't look like I will begin working on it anytime soon.

Liked: Free soft drink refills, large rental car, inexpensive fuel, nice motels, relatively good food, awesome national parks, not seeing a lot of rain, and much more.
Disliked: Free soft drink refills (too much sugar :), not having enough time at most places, Las Vegas (too many overweight, old, depressed-looking people just focussing on ultimatively losing money that could be better spent somewhere else), having to visit Death Valley and Grand Canyon in the hottest part of summer, etc.
Surprised to experience: a few situations that are too complex to describe here, and which mostly have to do with how the "American" "culture" differs from "European" "culture" (note use of too many quotation marks :)
More might follow eventually. I have over 3500 photographs (I had taken both a digital camera and my notebook to do daily downloads), occupying over 1.5 GB. One day, I might have time to sort, eliminate about 95%, comment the rest, and upload it to my personal homepage.
