Amigo follows up on serious allegations about H&P and says: "I also just asked Unisys as it says here, and am waiting for a reply. If true, H&P could probably be forced to close."
[ If H&P indeed didn't pay royalties for Unisys' GIF algorithm, they might not be forced to close per se, but if this is indeed true, and Unisys decides to sue, they might have to pay some serious fines. Also note that while this is not in unmoderated, it's highly speculative, unconfirmed and generally should be taken with the usual grain of salt - CK ]

Serious allegations about H&P : Comment 112 of 164 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Ben Hermans/Hyperion on 10-Nov-2001 11:31 GMT | In reply to Comment 94 (Stefan Burstrom): @Stefan B.
I'm not actively defending H&P. In fact, were it anybody else, I would say the same thing.
I am not H&P's lawyer or legal consultant.
I was merely trying to dispell some erroneous views about contract and copyright law that seem to pass for true among some of the people out there.
@David Scheibler: Thanks for NOT ordering Freespace. If that's your attitude, you will not be ordering a lot more stuff from quite a number of companies.
No Pegasos for instance.
bPlan is the successor entity of Phase 5 and at least 2 or 3 former Phase 5 employees/partners are partners of bPlan.
Now do I need to remind you of the blatantly criminal deceit Phase 5 engaged in by solliciting pre-paid pre-orders for the Cyberstorm NG which were supposedly put in an escrow account but turned out to be gone when the receiver stepped in?
I put it to you that this was a hell of a lot more money (Michael Garlich of Titan said it was 500.000 DM or around 230.000 USD) than whatever money Wiles owes NSDi or by extension H&P.
But it seems you don't care about that.
Double standard?
You betcha. |
