Amigo follows up on serious allegations about H&P and says: "I also just asked Unisys as it says here, and am waiting for a reply. If true, H&P could probably be forced to close."
[ If H&P indeed didn't pay royalties for Unisys' GIF algorithm, they might not be forced to close per se, but if this is indeed true, and Unisys decides to sue, they might have to pay some serious fines. Also note that while this is not in unmoderated, it's highly speculative, unconfirmed and generally should be taken with the usual grain of salt - CK ]

Serious allegations about H&P : Comment 122 of 164 | ANN.lu |
Posted by David Scheibler on 10-Nov-2001 22:24 GMT | In reply to Comment 120 (Ben Hermans/Hyperion): You're speaking about theft when there was no court decision?
Look it's quite easy why I decided not to buy Freespace:
1) You said "that it is a well known fact that MorphOS is based on
OS3.1 source". Did Amiga sue them? Is there a court decision? Did you
present any facts about this issue? No.
2) You say that it might be ok to sell AmiTCP. Even if it might be
legal (we don't know because some companies try to find a solution
without courts first) I think that it is not ok (or to speak in your
language: "it's a bit unfair") and *I* consider it as piracy. As you,
speaking for a company, defend this action I decided not to buy more
products from your company. Quite easy.
I don't know if you're speaking as a lawyer I think you do as you
always say so, it's of course ok when you say your opinion about that
case (btw: at least in Germany you're not allowed to give suggestions
about a special case without taking money but in this forum it's a bit
different as nobody from H&P asked you to give your opinion) but as I
already said there are other lawyers who will see the case completely
different. If there wasn't then you wouldn't earn money ;-) |
