Amigo follows up on serious allegations about H&P and says: "I also just asked Unisys as it says here, and am waiting for a reply. If true, H&P could probably be forced to close."
[ If H&P indeed didn't pay royalties for Unisys' GIF algorithm, they might not be forced to close per se, but if this is indeed true, and Unisys decides to sue, they might have to pay some serious fines. Also note that while this is not in unmoderated, it's highly speculative, unconfirmed and generally should be taken with the usual grain of salt - CK ]

Serious allegations about H&P : Comment 57 of 164 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Jürgen Schober on 09-Nov-2001 08:49 GMT | In reply to Comment 33 (Emmanuel Lesueur): >If I sell you the rights to Windows XP, you start selling it all
>over the world, and MS tells you to stop, do you think you can
>get away by telling you got the rights from me and thus can
>go on your sales? Get real.
I guess that's where the words "good faith" come into play.
That's exactly where "good faith" is very clear. On a bussiness relationship
one can asume to "trust" your bussiness partner to some degree, thus
if one provides you with untrue facts on a contract (or the like) it is indeed a cheat.
Guess what. You really believe you find anybody in the world (except china;), who's buing a Winxxx license from you, if you can't show him a proven document, that you are the license holder of that product? I believe the same situation was back then when H&P bought the AmiTCP license. They showed them a valid license which they did trust in the sentence of "good faith". So if you want to sue someone, go out and sue the one who sold the license.
Maybe you got that...just to explain what "good faith" means in bussiness terms.
