[Forum] Any interest in Zorro cards? | ANN.lu |

I am currently toying with the idea of designing a Zorro card for the Amiga. What would the interest be in a card with the following:
10/100 mbit Ethernet, 2 X High speed serial ports, 1 X ECP/EPP parallel port & IrDa?
There is some preliminary information on my website
I am also looking at the possibility of adding a Zorro to ISA bridge and making the card work in Zorro 2 and Zorro 3 Amigas.
Are there any other features you would like?
If you are interested, please email me. If there is enough interest I will look at making some prototypes and if feasible, a short production run.

Any interest in Zorro cards? : Comment 126 of 147 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Jools on 19-Dec-2001 01:54 GMT | Quite a few people may be missing the point. There is a big difference
between 'interest for such a card' and 'whether such a card would be
considered top of the range/hitech'. i appreciate many h/w
developments on the amiga, and really dont give a sh*t if a new card
didn't perform as fast as some 'blah' card on some other 'blah'
platform. More importantly, if it functions as well as it can on the
bus interface its on, and it adds a function which was not available
before which is of use, then its a good thing.
I wish all those people with there bullsh*t verbal masterplans and
creative genius tried applying there wisdom to something useful
instead of damning and flaming regularly on here. Certainly, with all
the time some people spend b*tching about other peoples ideas, instead
were to apply this to something constructive, we would be in a much
better situation.
Anyway, my 680x0 based Amigas are very important to me. I enjoy
working on them, and to be honest, whatever they may lack in CPU
power, they makes up for in the areas which are most important for my
hobbies. I just bought a RS232 port for my c64. Along the same lines
as some of the people here, you could moan on about that it will not
support a transfer rate over 38,400 or so.
But again you would be missing the point. The point is I had a need
for such an accessory, and whether its considered to be viable in mr
"top of the range hardware who does nothing but waste time playing
games' is of no importance. I'm not saying fast serial, fast cpu's,
fast gfx is not useful, but hardware is generally not used to a
creative potential by the majority of people. Sure i have other
machines apart from my Amigas, but I couldnt do the things i do on my
amigas on them.
"I would like to see a 100mbit ethernet card for amiga. and if you can
fit on some fast ide/or other ports all the better... best of
luck with your development.
ok.. enough..
Have fun
