But it doesn't, does it? It only tells part of the tale.
The truth is that the Amiga games market is not thriving, and the only reason anyone can port anything to the Amiga at all is because they also port it to the Mac, therefore letting the Mac sales absorb the licensing cost. If you factored in licensing costs, none of the Amiga ports would come close to breaking even.
As for Hyperion's failure in the Linux market and Loki's troubles, they too give a skewed impression. Hyperion's Linux ports must have suffered from having he worst distribution in Linux games history, while Loki probably overstretched themselves porting too many games. Compare Loki's total unit sales over the past two years with Hyperion's and the Amiga starts looking pretty pathetic. Compare Loki's output compared to Hyperion's and again you will see there cannot be any comparison at all.
All part of Hyperion's propaganda machine at the end of the day, using the same tactics we know so well from Microsoft. Microsoft are better at it though, because I don't think Hyperion have convinced anyone who wasn't a PPC fanatic to start off with. |
