Warp3D software render driver : Comment 155 of 158 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Simpleppc on 23-Feb-2002 00:17 GMT | In reply to Comment 146 (Mike Veroukis): Really? I strongly disagree! hyperion might have technical genius, but their
marketing tactics leave MUCH to be desired. They should be paying Herald et
al. to port Warp3D to Amithlon. Why? Because once Warp3D is ported to
amithlon then the amithlon users can actually run all the Hyperion 68K 3D
games without problems! The Amithlon user base is big enough to be taken
seriously. Why would you choose to exclude a sertain demographic? Any real
business analyst would argue Hyperion is losing money for not tapping into
the Amithlon market. Wanna make money and stay in business? Then exploit the
market before someone else will.
all the Hyperion 68k games ? Which ones to be precise ? Descent Freespace
you mean ?
Well, it DOES have a software renderer which works really nice on an
AMITHLON machine.
We all seem to forget that there is UAE and WINUAE and JIT UAE everywere to
be bougt aswell for years, and i haven't seen a big increase in sales. I did however
see a big increase in sites with old games and people coming on IRC asking
for KICK3.1 ROMS.
How many people tried Shapeshifter and Fusion ? a LOT. How many of them
bought MAC games like Warcraft to play them ? A LOT LESS.
Hyperion has provided an 68k version of Freespace , and we will probably
see a Quake2 version aswell (let's hope so :) for Alcemyst which his 80 MHZ
060, now THAT is an Amiga USER btw) so prove your point and ask all the people
who use amiga emulators (must be thousands) to buy Freespace Amiga version instead
of having the balls to DEMAND they port Warp3d to 68k
(strange, it is already available for 68k)
I personnaly (MY opinion) think that having something like a Voodoo3 running on an
Amiga 4000 with only an 060 playing GlQUake at 20 + FPS is much more
satisfying then having a really fast PC (for some strange reason also the
benchmarks i see are done on 1.4 or 1.7 Ggz ATHLON and NOT the DEMOGRAFIC of
average PC user which is probably between 500 and 800) playing the same
AMiga executable at 100 FPS . were is the fun in that ? :)
Kind Regards
