Posted by Alkemyst on 22-Feb-2002 04:59 GMT | for at least the next 2 years or so i would say that 75% or higher of commercial Amiga SW will be ports.
well the games will be anyway.
& to say make a brandnew games title is asking a bit much atm as Amiga firms just dont have the £ to do that.
& the linux argument is valid as there are millions more linux users than Amiga users
but yet the Amiga versions sells more.
the linux ppl already had the windows version or went & got the windows version cheaply.
Amiga ppl with PC's next to them would not buy a port of a pc game to Amiga.
so then the only ppl who would of bought the PC ported games for there amiga
would be the ones with out a PC next to them.
so it seems there must be more Amiga only ppl out there than ppl think seeing as
the PC game Ports to Amiga out sell the linux versions.
so right now x86 AmigaOS would not change anything as far as SW sales,
the x86 AmigaOs would sell well but the ported SW would not as ppl would just boot into windows.
& to say that ppl have been doing that for in the past does not count cos
most of the Amiga SW was original, so you could not use the windows version anyway as there was none.
so ppl with Amiga& a pc still bought the Amiga title.
but things have changed now & ports will be most of the Amiga big SW now untill the firms get more £.
but only Amigappl with PPC will be supporting the near future AmigaSW sales, buying the ports.
then they may have the £ to make brand new titles then it makes more sence to have X86 AmigaOS
as to use that title you have to use AmigaX86 OS as there would be no windows version to begin with.
but you X86 ppl will not support them to get to that stage by buying the SW ports.
it will be money from the sales of ports to PPC. that will fund oridginal titles in the future.
& the ppc ppl will think its unfair that the X86AmigaOs ppl benefit when they did not support
amiga SW up untill then.
& to add for the short term AmigaPPC can live on ports
as AmigaOS4 will have the benefit of using the ported SW they have always wanted with the OS they like.
AmigaOSx86 ppl will have the OS they always wanted but not the SW as they domt want the ports when they have the windows version already.
ppl who are willing to buy one of the PPC mobos or G3/G4 cards, already know that they will be paying for ports at full price,
cost has always been high when it comes to Amiga & the same goes for the Mac.
when ppl are un willing to pay them prices no more they move on to a cheaper platform.
& if that platform dies then so be it. but it seems there still enough ppl willing as far as the Mac goes.
when someone moves from the Mac to the PC, they dont go around saying that PPC MAC should be dropped & macOS should go x86.
have to take the good with the bad, the good is cheap HW & good apps, the bad is the windowsOS.
that life.
when someone buys a RollsRoyce they take the good with the bad, the cost of fuel & up keep is the bad &
when they can no longer afford it they sell it & buy a cheaper car wich is not so nice.
they dont tell RollsRoyce that they should make cheaper cars.
you cant have your cake & eat it, only the rich can & PC ppl are not rich as thats why they cant |
