Amiga Inc. April executive update : Comment 171 of 186 | ANN.lu |

This comparison is void.

??? Where did you get that from? The dealers can get a hardware license at no
cost (That's what Ben said). The user does not have to register anything (Noone
did state such). The user just buys Amiga hardware and AmigaOS (and this is
what counts.. ;-)
> exclusive distribution rights (SDA),
Nah. You'll get access to an Ami-Packager through NDA, so you don't need an SDA
for distributing for AA. And without NDA you're free to make your software
downloadable through Aminet, GetBoinged.org or whatever. Your point would only
be some kind of valid if AA (=AmigaDE _Player_) would be the only distribution
of AmigaDE. Who said it will be? ;-)
> a software developer that bundles software with hardware they didn't produce,
My A500 came with OS1.2. The A4000 with OS3.0. So what? And you are free to
get _any_ PPC hardware without an _Amiga_ brand marking. M$ OTOH forces hardware
distributors to bundle Windows with _any_ x86 hardware.
> don't have a good product so just sue very competitor (Amithlon).
They didn't sue Bernie. They informed him that there is no signed agreement
yet with H&P (what H&P should have done before instead of continuing to sell
Amithlon)

Turn this around. MorphOS will lose (which I don't hope) when they insist on
being AmigaOS compatible that is an AmigaOS-clone. The only way for MorphOS to
keep some AmigaOS compatibility AFAICS is like with Linux fe.: through _UAE_.
Once the Q-Box is out and MorphOS does not claim any more to be AmigaOS
compatible (which it won't be with AmigaOS4.0 anyway) everything should be
alright again. And I will have a look at it as I ever said I will.
Right now AmigaOS may lose upto 20% of its actual user base to MorphOS (which
I doubt. Many MorphOS people will silently get an AmigaOne anyway). But this
reduction may be easily filled up with those Amigans coming back from the PC
world. Yes, if they come back, they will come to where _Amiga_OS is, not
MorphOS.
And maybe, as Nostradamus predicted, the world will see its end in 1999. Oops,
we passed that already ;-) We will se..
Ciao, Alex |
