"No" what?
> as the whole point of license is to prevent such things.
Yes, it surely seems like this specific licence is intended to control hardware development and stop competition. I otherwise associate licensing in general to making money and assuring a certain quality to the consumers who buy licensed products.
> if a provider could do that then there is no point in having alot of the
> terms that are layed out on the license.
If you're not bound by a license, you can do whatever pleases you with your own hardware.
> & you could end up with ppl buying any PPCmobo from god knows who.
The horror! The horror!
Imagine buying whatever you want from whomever you want. I hardly dare think the thought.
> & then find out when trying to install Os4 that itdont work or it does work
> but not as it should.
Tough sh-t. So what? If I want guarantees, then I buy licensed hardware.
If an unlicensed manufacturer says it works and other users say it works before I buy, I'm willing to take the risk if it's cheaper and has better specs. The point is that I, the consumer, decide what needs I have. The consumer has found hardware which is known to run an OS, so he should be able to buy the hardware from the hardware distributor and the OS from the OS distributor.
> then your ask the shop where you got the board for help & they will say what
> well we know nothing about AmigaOs4
No, I won't ask the shop since I bought unlicenced hardware. I was *my* choice and *my* risk. If I'd be stupid and still would ask the shop and they tell me to please leave, there's nothing I can do. Big deal.
> & asumed you were going to run linux or one of the other opensource Oses.
Huh? What? Why? Who?
> then you try getting help from Amiga.inc, eyetech, hyperion, or on some of the
> forums.
I'd be trying to get help from others running the specific OS on the specific hardware. If it's a hardware problem, I'd also turn to the manufacturer (today, if I had a VIA mobo running Windows I wouldn't go to ABit or MS for hardware support, would I?). If it's an OS problem, I'd also turn to the makers of the OS.
> & cos it was not a licensed board you will be stuck as you will most likely
> get no help from Amiga.inc, eyetech, hyperion & alot of ppl on the forums will

Yes, with the current OS/hardware bundling scheme, people in forums and on the 'net would most likely only have the option to run licenced hardware.
> & then you would get get frustrated & ditch AmigaOs & many other who did the
> same. thus in the end losing more amiga ppl or even some new ppl.
I'd most likely ditch the faulty hardware. If the hardware wasn't faulty, then I'd know it's not compatible to the OS I'm trying to use, and I wouldn't have bought it in the first place.
> so instead of growing it would be shrinking.
Has the market of a computer nerd/enthusiast oriented OS released later than the 1980's which *only* can be bought together with rare hardware from a few select distributors ever grown? |
