Amiga Inc. April executive update : Comment 83 of 186 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Kelly Samel on 13-Apr-2002 18:39 GMT | You have to remember that no company is
being forced to build and sell a computer
that runs AmigaOS4. That is their decision
based on the fact that they feel it is a
viable project for them to pursue. The
AmigaOne system is designed primarily to
be an Amiga and simple logic says that it
will be much better for the user if AmigaOS4
is bundled in with such hardware. The fact
that it can run Linux is just something that
is possible on the machine so some people may
find it interesting to do so. I do not think
they are really marketing this machine to
Linux users other than saying, yeah it's
possible to run it so why not? These
machines are designed originally to be Amiga
based and including special boot roms and
AmigaOS 4 etc. is just the best way to
achieve this. We NEED more systems that are
specifically geared towards running AmigaOS4
and not just a general purpose option
that does not really address the concerns and
needs of an AmigaOS4 based system.
I would love to see AmigaOS4 bring with it new
hardware features like that of the original
Amiga, things like:
autoconfig / built in ROM / Early startup menus
etc.
(i know all this isn't happening in AOne
but it's an example of possible future systems
that continue this philosphy)
And just like the original Amiga you
just happen to be able to run Linux on it
if you want to for some reason... Lets
focus on what we want in a system not on
how many other totally irrelevant OSes or
uses it may have, AmigaOS4 is ALL that is
important in a new Amiga system, make it the focus... |
