Say who ? I thought it was already said: We do want to support the Pegasos board. It's firmly planned. Unfortunately, we haven't received a developer board yet, but if we ever get one, OS4 will run on the Pegasos.

AmigaOS 4.0 on Pegasos : Comment 368 of 510 | ANN.lu |

You oviously get the point :)

See post 89. I was a regular in CSAM when that was posted there, and remember it. It is straight from the horses mouth.
>>AmigaOS 4.x stands a small chance for large scale success.
>I second that opinion, very small indeed.
Small, yet much larger than that of AmigaOS clones.
There are countless former Amiga users (many of whom are developers for large software houses) waiting on Amiga to finally release something. When AmigaOS 4 and modern hardware finally reach a point of mass marketability (meaning that it has quality web browsing and office suite type software), do not be surprised to see relatively strong sales resulting major developers jumping on board. Many if not most of the top game companies today cut their teeth on Amiga. I have spoken with some people from a couple of known houses, and they are ready to support Amiga asap. Believe it or not, some of those people love the Amiga as much as those posting on ANN do... to the point that they would port to Amiga NOW if the hardware was capable of supporting their software. Don't be surprised to see AmigaOS4 getting software titles before Mac does, and not long after the new system is released. My guys may have something ready to go shortly after release.

I personally couldn't care less about Morphos, and wish them well. In the eyes of users like myself (who wait in the shadows for new product) they are not even a blip on the radar. They may have a fine product, but other than recruiting a few folks over from the current Amiga base, they stand little/no chance of gaining support. Amiga on the other hand, stands a good chance, simply because of their name. Morphos would have been well served to have partnered with Amiga for the next generation release. Anyone who thinks that Morphos stands more chance of success than Amiga OS needs their heads examined. They may be Amino-Amiga, but the name Amiga still carries some meaning for a lot of folk.
I mean... if you were the President of Electronic Arts, which name catches your attention?
If you are the CEO of Babbages or Electronics Boutique, which name conjurs up memories of lots of sales?
Piracy aside, there was a time when Amiga software was a lucrative business.

Absolutely.
bPlan will wise up... Pegasos may be vastly superior to Eyetech AmigaOne (I don't know that it is or isn't), but AmigaOne will sell many more units, simply because of the name and OS... and it isn't a wimpy system by any stretch.
To user John Doe, Morphos + bPlan does nothing. Amiga conjurs up memories of playing killer games until 3am and having his computer run circles around his friend's pc.
It is not likely that Morphos + bPlan have (or will attain) the financial capability to market their end product to a degree where it becomes a household name. Amiga is not that far removed from being one.
These kinds of posts usually bring flames down from the pro-morphos crowd. The sad thing is that they know in their hearts it is true.
Its a shame that the programmers who are working on Morphos could not have spent their time on something that will carry the boing ball logo.
And notice... I haven't even mentioned legalities.
That is a whole 'nother post. One that I have dealt with personally, in a square kindof way. |
