Only the hardware can read from it which it does when booting up, everything else rus ontop of it but that doesn't mean all applications has access directly to the information stored in the ROM directly. Only the ROM itself decides which information is available to the applications. In order to get the information in the ROM, the information needs to be dumped somewhere (normally in RAM or on the HD), accessing it directly is impossible.
Think of the ROM as when you launch an application, what is available to you is only the running process, not the actual ROM file. |
