AFUA visited Thendic-France : Comment 559 of 629 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Frodon on 28-Apr-2002 12:58 GMT | Hello all,
Here are the real verified, proven and checked facts about MorphOS, ROMs, emulation...etc
1) MorphOS A/Box is not an emulator it's an AmigaOS compatible APIs layer (even the current beta release availabel!)
2) Reading a ROM directly is LEGAL. There is no dump or copy of the ROM made. And MorphOS DON'T dump or use a copy of the Amiga ROMs, it just read it directly from the chips and that is LEGAL (it has been PROVED and confirmed by a lawyer). Everybody affirming the contrary are simply LIARS! SO ignore them ;)
3) So all the things debated here are useless in the MorphOS case as it don't DUMP or COPY the Amiga ROMs and it's not even an emulator ;)
4) BPlan or the MorphOS Team haven't used the AmigaROM to marketing their product! The only thing they have used is the Workbench name and Workbench is not part of the ROMs sorry ;). And in the final release it'll not use the ROMs at ALL nor the Workbench! Do you know that a beta release even public is not valid in a legal lawsuit? only final products can be sued.
So Samface and the other, stop debating and INVALID things in the MorphOS case. The only points where MorphOS can be debated to be "illegal" is about decompilation that may have been used (but that's have to been proven) and about the eventual "parasitic competition" that MorphOS can do. Personally I think that no competition are parasitic only anti-competitive practice are dangerous but it's my opinion ;)
