Searching comments was planned at some point in time. I guess it's just that these new features need time and determination, a varying degree of which I've been lacking ever since around 1998 :)
A comments search would be really slow, there are currently 3500 files, with around 30 MB of text data and what might be a hundred thousand comments (the last number being a very vague guess). I don't really see any way to index that...
The normal search is slow because, once again, a few thousand files need to be opened and parsed. I suppose an index could be used for that, but until now I didn't see the need for that, considering how little the search was used. |
