the next ppc amiga : Comment 148 of 359 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Darrin on 19-May-2002 20:17 GMT | In reply to Comment 143 (Janne Sirén): >>No, I actually believe I haven't gotten it the wrong way around. Pegasos is not publicly available yet, where as the developer release of AmigaOne was made public
The board was "supposed" to be ready. As a dealer you were "supposed" to be able to order one ages ago. So, why is there no production run like the AmigaOne just had? I'll tell you - it's because there is no fully functional MOS to run on it. They could have released the boards with LinuxPPC, but that would have enabled Hyperion to get their hands on one and develop OS4 for it... and if OS4 was released for the Pegasos BEFORE MOS then who on earth would want to have to pay for a copy of MOS at a later date?
The plan is simple: delay the board availability until MOS can be rewritten in a legally acceptable way so that those people who are holding out for an OS4 compatible Pegasos board will end up buying a mobo they "hope" will run OS4, but will get stuck with MOS. Also, if Hyperion develop OS4 for the Pegasos later (with no help from bPlan) then fine - MOS will already be out there and bPlan will be only too happy to see pirate versions of OS4 on the bPlan as it means no revenue to Amiga Inc. |
