Oh great, computing for idiots. What will the next one be, how to install an OS from floppies?
They'd be doing far more for their cause if they actually showed us the OS running for more than 30 seconds, and several different apps running on it.
No, from the video I deduce that this is a tuppeny-ha'penny outfit with no money (hence no production run: they can't afford the outlay). Now, if they were looking for financial backing (aka venture capital) to get their project to market, that would be OK and the video would be quite acceptable. However, they aren't; they're trying to show people what a wonderful mobo/OS they have, and there it falls down very badly indeed. Electronics engineers that don't know about adjusting a video camera to take CRT screen refresh rates into account? You're doing a demo, so you leave the firmware checks on at bootup so no-one can tell how fast the OS really boots?
It's a shame: that little mobo could be used in some really neat ways if it works as advertised. That's something we haven't yet seen proof of. OTOH, a number of people have seen the Eyetech board running Linux (some of us have even touched it and messed around launching apps :-) ), and any remaining hardware issues will be rapidly identified and eliminated by the people with dev boards. |
