the next ppc amiga : Comment 213 of 359 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Ole-Egil Hvitmyren on 20-May-2002 08:42 GMT | In reply to Comment 211 (Boy Genius): If it was possible to make a superior piece of hardware cheaply in todays electronics business, someone else than Amiga Inc would have done it years ago and would be ruling the world by now. The fact that there are still several makers of CPU's, chipsets, GPU's, RAM and disks tells me that there is no "superior" in this business, at least not for long. You might be king of the hill now, but you'll be stone dead in a moment, so don't take it too seriously. That's why the A1G3SE from Eyetech isn't superior hardware. Because noone has superior hardware. If AMD is so superior, why is Intel still in business? And Motorola? IBM? If nVidia is superior, why is ATI, Matrox and a couple of others still out there? Because technology doesn't happen in big lumps to some lonely bugger in Himalaya who can then use his knowledge to rule the world of electronics. It happens in small bits all over the place, ensuring competition (which is good). The moment you have superior hardware, you can be certain of one thing: You'll be way behind shortly. We are behind now, they'll be forced to run to keep up shortly ;) |
