the next ppc amiga : Comment 328 of 359 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Christophe Decanini on 20-May-2002 18:03 GMT | In reply to Comment 325 (Anonymous): "The companies behind MacOS, Windows, QNX, BSD, Linux, BEOS... did not try to be Amiga compatible, they just work hard to build their own community why not Morphos ? "
Maybe because the entire MorphOS developers, users are from the Amiga communauty and that 2 years ago they were convinced to be the only one to be able to deliver a new AmigaOS on a new hardware.
Amiga Inc was not interested 2 years ago by AmigaOS. The were saying 50000 3.9 sold to do it or nothing.
The MorphOS team tried to have a license to use "The name".
Amiga wanted complete control and that was not working for the MorphOS team.
Then Hyperion convinced Amiga Inc to do an OS4.
Then Amiga and Hyperion started to speak about legal action.
On their side the MorphOS team replaces everything that could be Amiga IP in MorphOS.
Amiga think:
or
- they Bplan pay a license to have OS 4 on Pegasos
- then they wait x to xx month that the OS4 is ready for the pegasos
- and they throw to the basket 2-3 years of work that was done on MorphOS
or
- they only sell to the linux/ embeded market.
Bplan think:
We can have MorphOS out without any amiga ip infrigement
We don't need AmigaOS 4 as we have MorphOS almost ready
We would have liked to have "The Name" but now that Hyperion took it we have to go with our own name.
Of couse this is a part of my (simplified) theory that try not to be biased and that can be wrong. |
