AmigaPOP.8bit.co.uk is finally online!
Here you'll hopefully find all information you could possibly want about the "AmigaOS distribution policies and POP/PPC hardware petition". I hope the background information and FAQ will be especially helpful to clear up any confusion surrounding these issues.
If you have not yet signed the petition, then please do so now! Please help spreading the word by linking to AmigaPOP.8bit.co.uk. It's not too late to save our favourite OS and a unified POP-based hardware market!
In other news, I have finally managed to get in touch with the PetitionOnline.com administrators. The few abuse and sabotage attempts so far have been removed from the signatory listings. Not that any garbage would ever reach the recipient of our petition, but I understand some thought that it didn't look too good...

AmigaOS + POP/PPC petition official web site : Comment 265 of 280 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Phill on 08-Jun-2002 05:27 GMT | In reply to Comment 264 (Björn Hagström): It seems very unlikely that all POP boards are indeed compatible, even if that was the intention when the standard started.
Different chipsets, graphics cards etc all add up to major headaches.
Windows XP shipped with very dodgy nvidia drivers, the Geforce 2 GO drivers would crash every five minutes ( no exageration ). Now dell wouldn't sell me a copy of XP with the laptop I had ordered around the launch time because they were aware of the issue, I went ahead and bought an XP upgrade and then ran around for updated drivers etc.
I don't mind doing stuff like that, but it's generally regarded that XP is evil because of windows update etc. The number of comments about "it should work out of the box" that get posted here is an indication that it would be a nightmare if AOS4 was sold in the same way as Windows.
If you work in the computer industry for long enough you'll discover that people are often adamant over what they want, but it's not always a good idea to give them it.
Personally I see a problem with hacked copies of AOS4 running on AmigaOne's sold without the protection chip, but thats really not my problem. If Amiga want to limit the number of motherboards their OS runs on then it's up to them & there are good business reasons for doing it ( remember that? you have to make money to stay in business ).
