new Screenshots of Rage Harde released : Comment 20 of 135 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Steffen Haeuser on 09-Jul-2002 11:16 GMT | In reply to Comment 13 (redrumloa): Hi!
Actually two people who were doing this presentation were Quake 2 Betatesters.
They did not ask for permission to present Quake 2 at that opportunity, though.
They just did it without even mentioning it to me or anybody else first.
The Quake 2 presentation was not on the Pegasos, though, it was on an Amiga running under OS 3.x with WarpOS. I guess there was a reason for it why it
was not shown on the Pegasos :) My guess is that the reason for not showing it
on the Pegasos is the current lack of 3D API for them. Asides from that the
WarpOS Emulation of them is at best my knowledge quite decent. And I know I
did nothing to prevent it from running on purpose. Shogo appearently did not
run on their Emulation, but I think I know what the reason for this is (Heretic II did run on it). So the 3D-Hardware-issue is the reason I'd guess why they
showed it on an Amiga.
BTW: At some point in the *future* - not sure when - you can expect future PPC programs - 68k programs of course excluded - from me will go "OS 4 only".I cannot say if this will extent to my work for Hyperion Entertainment, this depends what Hyperion Entertainment decides. But I know I am not the only
one in the company favouring OS 4 only titles some time in the future (once the AmigaOne and OS 4 have a solid base - would be mad to do this earlier, of course :)). Coding OS 4 Native will definitely have advantages in the "speed department" and also to be able to use APIs like AmigaInput (instead of one API for each different Input Controller !!!)
But I definitely "vote" for Hyperion Entertainment PPC Native titles being OS 4 only from some point. I cannot say when this will be, this depends of course on
the sales of OS 4. But at one point it will happen. Will definitely be after
Quake 2, BTW, Quake 2 will be a OS 3.x + WarpOS title. It might even run on
MorphOS. I did not test it and I do not care about it. But if their WOS Emulation is as good as they claim it should work, normally. I won't test this,
though.
68k versions will definitely be excluded from this, but as to how far 68k versions will still remain to be seen. Well, I guess for some "low-specced" games (not 3D Shooters :) ) 68k versions might still make sense. Though Freespace sales are not actually encouraging for the "68k effect".
