"Countdown to the draw: The promotion has ended. Coupon count may still rise as third party dealers submit their sales. Winners will be announced soon."

The "I Am Amiga" promotion has ended! : Comment 98 of 134 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Don Cox on 27-Jul-2002 14:13 GMT | In reply to Comment 93 (Hagge): "AmigaOS4 probably needs some NEW functions which has never been seen before if Amiga Inc wants
more users. vm and memory protection is good, but "all" other oses
already have them to. "
New functions that really do something worth while are always good,
but if you just rack your brains to think of something new that the
others don't have, you are more likely to get gimmicks.
We do have two unique features that make Amiga multitasking more
functional that multitasking elsewhere - public screens and ARexx.
One possible thing to consider would be to make the Amiga more
configurable than Mac or Windows. For example, you have a choice now
between Workbench, Scalos and Magellan. How about some more Workbench
alternatives with really way out interfaces?
Most people would hate each one, but some would love them. An obvious
one is a fully 3D Workbench replacement, using the acceleration on a
graphics card. A speech-operated one. One with different noises for
everything (like KidPix paint program). One that is designed to be as
hard to use as possible, turning the WB into a game.
The other thing to aim at is really fast interrupt response, with no
IRQ conflicts ever. (These are still not dead on Windows, in spite of
PCI.)
Another unique Amiga feature is that you can talk to the person who
wrote the program. Try getting into direct contact with an Adobe or
Macromedia coder and see how close you get. |
