Bill McEwen is a VERY good speaker. So much so that my brother who got me hooked on the Amiga but has since lost interest was very interested in the AmigaDE and Amiga OS 4. I think everyone at the banquet was positive about the future for the Amiga. Bill McEwen is the first to admit that mistakes have been made in the past and of what they would do if they had the resources to do it. Currently they are focusing on area's of the most growth and most return. Their plan is to "break" in to the market and use that money to fund the development of a solution not just for PDA/CellPhones or desktop or servers, but a solution to computing. It's very ambious but hey why not :)
I can understand why Bill McEwen might not have all the details on something like Amithlon or even OS 4. Other people work at Amiga and hopefully they are handling those. Talking to Ben Hermens he made it sound as if OS 4 is not more then a few months off, same for the AmigaOne SE. I tend to beleive them more now since SO 4.0 did have pretty major feature creep (adding the 4.2 feature set in to 4.0) and I have seen the AmigaOne board running. What will happen in the next few months with these products only time will tell.
I've known Bill McEwen for many years starting at the first AmiWest. I can still remember his reaction to that first AmiWest and how excited he was by it. He is not here to screw us, like take the money and run. He is here and doing what he is doing because he believes this technology and the community behind it, can change the world.
I'm as sceptical as anyone about this stuff. I'll believe it when I can go to fry's or a another store walk up and touch a phone running Gobbler, or when I am running OS 4. It's been a VERY hard road with the economy as rough as it is the fact they are still in busniess is amazing. I wish them the best of luck.
