Project Petunia (AmigaOS4 JIT emulator) pages updated and extended with a FAQ.
Project Petunia pages (the emulator, that will be used in AmigaOS4) updated and extended with a FAQ.
After a long period of checking forums, chatboards and answering e-mails I decided to add a FAQ part into the project page. I hope I can clean up all the important questions arising in you. If something is not clear enough feel free to write a mail.

Project Petunia FAQ : Comment 68 of 68 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Kjetil on 23-Aug-2002 06:49 GMT | In reply to Comment 58 (Jon): One is that it is an system friendly emulation, it emulate tasks, not an hole computer system,
Programs that do not allow multitasking will most likely not work at all, well it depens on how its implemented.
The second thing is FPU.
And 3rd thing is uncommon instructions, not emulated instructions.
And lastly self-modifying code,
And direct hardware addressing, you need some sort of software plug in to emulate hardware.
All of these issues need be handled to make Petunia work on old Games and Demos.

How ever UAE can take use of petunia if MMU is emulated, you can use MMU to trap, memory used inside the emulator and use the Petunia Just in time emulation as native CPU, an emulator of that type can be run on Amiltlon or on otter 68k systems as well,
This is noting new if we look at Wmware this used the native i686 to emulate an PC system with out emulating the CPU, it simply traps the memory. |
