GoldED Studio AIX (Aug/2002): The first trial version of GoldED Studio AIX is available for downloading now. It is fully functional if used with small documents: texts can be loaded, edited and saved.
GoldED Studio AIX
TRIAL VERSION RELEASED 20/Aug/2002
This trial package replaces earlier beta versions (which had no save function). It brings the freely downloadable version up to the state of the current commercial release, ie. it ships with the all-new installer add-on and a highly improved C/C++ mode, now supporting multiple compilers, multiple makefiles and make targets.
The current archive size is 10 MB. Due to internet traffic and FTP space restraints, some add-ons are not included with the trial version. Specifically, Joyce spell checking is not included (10 MB+). A complete
trial version will be available on CD-ROM in the near future.</i>

GoldED Studio AIX - TRIAL VERSION : Comment 6 of 11 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Dietmar on 23-Aug-2002 05:29 GMT | In reply to Comment 3 (StAn): >Is there a reason for including the NDK3.9 and VBCC in the archive of GoldEd demo ?
GoldED Studio is a developer's editor and one if its core elements is a C/C++ mode. VBCC is included to show the level of integration between the editor and a C compiler. The NDK is included for the same reason.
> To me, it looks *very* stupid.
Nice tone here. Now, take StormC, for example. It's a similar product: an editor, a compiler and some glue stuff (project list, frontend for setting options etc.). In a nutshell: an integrated development environment. Obviously, the StormC demo ships with a compiler. GoldED provides a similar setup: a compiler, an editor, a nice program to set compilation options, integration with the debugger - Wouldn't I be stupid if I release a demo which does not point this out ?
> Why not include the whole GeekGadgets archive BTW ? Might be useful...
Actually, this will be the case shortly. At this time, GoldED's C/C++ mode supports SAS/C, vbcc and StormC (other compilers are supported by a not-so-well-integrated generic C/C++ mode). Native support for gcc, including a frontend for setting its options, isn't too difficult to be addded. The required gcc packages will be included with GoldED, because I'm a strong advocate of everything-must-be-as-easy-as-possible. If a product doesn't come with a point-and-click installation, something is wrong with it.
Regarding the demo version: 10-20 MB is ok with me if I see how madly many computer users are downloading MP3s and videos with little regard to size.

>Can I suggest Aminet, please. It would be INSANE to let the thing
>get full of the damned mods and few useful stuff like yours. Thanks.
I can not upload the archive to Aminet for various reasons, license issues included. If someone has a problem with the AOL server, please point me to a free provider without download limit and I'll mirror the file there. |
