Thendic Sponsors a football team! : Comment 64 of 89ANN.lu
Posted by Markus on 16-Sep-2002 19:51 GMT
Okay, I'm the coach of the team and was very surprised to read such many flaming posts! Now I have to tell you my point of view.
To clear some things up:
We searched for a sponsor who helps us to get some new sweatshirts or something else for the kids who have a hobby that is called football.
If you play/have played footbal or something else you might know that there is a lot of us for different things like footballs, shoes etc.
But for the kids it's great to wear the same sweatshirts or tracksuits to demonstrate that they are one team (as the Amiga community was once :-( ) and to have unique clothes.
As usual you ask anyone in your town to sponsor you or just to help you getting new clothes.
But as I'm interested in the Amiga market I just asked Thendic because at this moment they were doing some advertisement on yahoo(?) - and I quickly got an answer! We talked about different points and very soon they agreed to help us! And I'm very thankful about that because every year it becomes harder to find someone who is going to sponsor us or even another team.
Here is something about your statements:
(7)"The important part here is, though, they can and they DO"
That's the point! Many people are talking - Thendic is doing something, they helped us! And I'm very glad of this!
(15)"> Gosh, this takes me back. Anyone else remember when Commodore sponsored
> French football team Paris-Saint Germain?
And Chelsea. "
Commodore also sponsored Bayern München in Germany!
(22)"Someone (the trainer ??) asked Thendic if the would like to be the sponsor.
Thendic replied with something like "sell 1 BETATESTER for us and we will do it". "
Thendic asked me to help them to get one Betatester/Pegasos sold - thats the way a partnership works! Also I have to say, I haven't sold a board to anyone now but Thendic is nevertheless sponsoring us right now!
(24)"Agreed. The kids are not being exploited here. They benefit"
Of course they do:-) We have some children whos parents aren't able to buy sweatshirt for 30€ or 40€ - so you always have a problem because you want to get your whole team wear the same clothes. The only way to get this work is find some sponsors like Thendic!
(30)"Maybe Amiga inc. will do the same and we'll be able to see Thendic vs Amiga inc. soccer games :D"
Of course this would be funny:-)
(36)"IIRC, Amiga Inc., in the Petro days, sponsored the same team, Thendic sponsors
now."
Yes thats right. Amiga (Petro Tyschtchenko) did the same thing two years ago (even Thendic buys us better and more expensive stuff - one thing nobody cares about! They really told me that we should take the more expensive and better quality ones than the ones I announced first! So they pay for the sweatshirt a lot of money - if anyone who is flaming this sponsorship he should thing about this!). And I'm very happy to have helpers from the Amiga community! :-)
(37)
"Bill, if you knew how much Thendic will be paying for these sweatshirts, you wouldn't have called it "cheap". That's for sure."
Of course that's right!
I'm staying for 5 years now with the team and no ones else paid us so much in this time! Same for other teams in our club!
(38)"Reading about MorphOS is fine. Reading about Pegasos is good. Reading about Thendic's activities? Pfffft."
I can understand that is not very interesting for you, but for us it is!
If you're tired by this just ignore it! No problem or? :-)
(43)"I think that is good of Thendic-France to sponsor the team for these youngsters and I would also praise any other company that does so."
I would sign this! :-)
(46)"Sponsoring computer party's would be better, be it linux parties windows or lan-parties
and set up a few pegasos'es there for the geaks to play with, would be a better
chance of selling machines than the soccer team.."
I you would ask Thendic perhaps they would also sponsoring computer party's!
Where is your problem? That I asked them and Thendic is sponsoring us?
Perhaps there would be more interested people at a computer party but doesn't it make sense to demonstrate that there is an interest of helping young kids and helping people who are don't just interested in computers? I think it's worth very much!
And about the interest: As Amiga helped us two years ago there where a lot of people who asked us about the logos - are they still alive? What are they doing? I was surprised how many people asked me because of the sweatshirts and the Amiga logo.
(51)"You are kidding arent you? (nice pun, eh?) Why would anyone see or even get autographs from a bunch of 12 year olds soccer players at a computer show?"
Do you also believe we will be playing in the Bundesliga in some years? Don't take this too serious! The kids are happy to go to the show.
We will take some photos with the Thendic/MorphOS-team and demonstrate that we don't just take the money but see this as a partnership as any sponsor would like too I believe!
On the way: Why should anyone want to see a band (ANNEX - I like them!) on a computer show? And even many hope to see them on any of the next Amiga shows!
I'm very happy that Thendic is doing so and the kids are asking me as often as they can when they get these sweatshirts! :-)
There are not hundreds of companys waiting to spend their money for young kids and their hobbys, but Thendic does so! Thanks for your support!
