Report from USA Demo of Pegasos, MorphOS : Comment 19 of 116 | ANN.lu |

That was the idea, really. This guy is not simply just deliberately ending the lives of innocent people - a random act which is bad enough in itself - but he is putting millions more through the daily terror of fearing for their lives.
To be honest, I was describing a sentiment rather than a conviction. I'm not in favour of capital punishment really, much less so the US politically motivated justice system. I don't *really* think we should bring back live disembowelling. :)
However, you have to admit that sometimes the "humane" punishments just aren't enough. Will taking away his gun and putting him in jail for the rest of his life really hurt that badly? Maybe, maybe not. Jails, even max security ones, have their own internal social systems, and inmates can gain power and status even on the inside. People like this guy, who thrive in inflicting fear and terror, may well thrive on the inside, not to mention that human rights issues will mean that conditions aren't allowed to get _that_ bad, even for him. Now, if you were to put him into solitary confinement for the rest of his natural life, that might do it, but again human rights and the law would not allow that to happen.
...but anyway, this is OT, so to get back on track, I have to say I'm looking forward to the first credible independent reviews of MorphOS. So far, we've only heard from MikeB, whose articles I've learned to ignore as ill-reserached, and the people who are demonstrating and advocating MOS, whose reports are hardly unbiased enough to be reliable. Why wasn't the report on this demo done by one of the members of the group? |
