Dave Haynie writes in the newsgroups: "I'm in the final stages of the preparation of a DVD edition of "The Deathbed Vigil and other tales of digital angst". For those who've been living, well, in the normal mainstream of modern life and don't know this, this is the film I made about the end of Commodore." There's also a "contest" where you can get your words on the DVD. Read more here.

Deathbed Vigil DVD : Comment 28 of 32 | ANN.lu |
Posted by James Whelan on 24-Oct-2002 09:32 GMT | In reply to Comment 25 (Vexar): Although I love to think of myself as the eternal optimist, I have to agree. I think bad news is on the way. The current silence is unnervingly similar to when Amiga went into "stealth mode" (i.e. scrapping everything mode) under Gateway.
I rarely post on either here or at amiga.org any more because there's too much childish squabbling and name-calling. But I've been quietly watching the events of the last six months and it all reaffirms my now heartfelt belief that the Amiga will never make a comeback.
Coming to this conclusion was strangley liberating for me. For years now, I've been sneered at and ridiculed by various people for predicting the return of the Amiga. Time after time, I've had to eat my words and watch as new owner after new owner stuffed everything up. I lapped up all the pretty speeches about what an amazing community we all were part of, and how we deserved better.
But now that I've accepted that it's not going to happen, I can get on with
using and enjoying the four Amigas I currently own. And nothing will shake my belief that the Amiga is the best home computer ever invented.
While I salute the work being done by Eyetech and Hyperion, I wonder will their labours be in vain. It's all starting to sound too familar - the good work being done by hardware and software teams failing to gain the proper recognition due to the failings of management.
As I've stated on amiga.org on a similar thread, there is nothing I would like more than to be proved completely wrong on all of this. But the optimist in me is dead.
Or at the very least, he's not at all well... |
