Posted by Xboxer on 07-Nov-2002 10:15 GMT | As these articles show, AInc have been promising hundreds of apps for PocketPC since Q1 2002. When manufacturers talk to AInc, Bill pretty much pukes down their throats with excitement, and then on deadline day Bill is all "Um, I have a couple of things here, but you really need to give me another five or six years to deliver what we originally planned". So far none of them have been angry enough to sue or hire a hitman.
Basically AInc takes 3rd party developers, and then "markets" their software to PocketPC users. So you'll spend say 12 months creating a game, Fleecy and co. will spend an afternoon playing your game, and AInc will put up a web page selling it.
After another 12 months AInc have sold 50 copies of your game, income $500, they keep $100 for themselves, so you get paid $400 for a year's work. Remember you can't re-release the game for other platforms or try to sell it yourself because that's forbidden by the SDA. So no matter how worthless AInc are, no matter if they won't even answer the phones to distributors and they lie to everyone about their ability to deliver, you're screwed.
My advice to potential new SDA developers? Don't. My advice to current SDA developers? If you work through a corp. or limited company, shut it down and sell all media rights to yourselves for a pittance. Then write your own PocketPC games and sell them through normal channels for more money. If you are signed with AInc as an individual, go find something else to do for the next five years or however long the contract lasts. |
