Nah, it is because 3D is THE thing today. But it is ok, new 3D games are awesome as well. Once you can play quake2 you can play them all. The main thing is that in the past, a guy could be sitting with his brother at home and crack out a spectacular game. Today you need a huge company to back you up. 3D or 2D, the huge companies make everything problematic. I would bet you, that if there came something like Amos, with the same features as libSDL, for linux, we would have fun all over again. (Darkbasic just don't cut it! It isn't generic enough. It is focused on games, like Easy Amos, not as powerful.) C is not the problem, it is the infinite problems of makefiles and shit that stand in the way.
Oh, Linux, with Film Gimp, just got a HUGE gfx upgrade. We might see new spectacular stuff yet.
IMHO, Linux is the new Amiga. It is different. It has affordable apps, and a great community (at last).
>You are totally right about the lack of original ideas, it's all the same (3D
>crap!)...
Well, the point is, as said, people don't have access to something not mainstream, and it all becomes mainstream. If more people would dare to learn something new, i.e. Linux, or even Aros, with a compiler in hand, it would be fun all over again. You must remember, if everybody in the world had Amiga, the world would be just as boring. It is the people that make the world, the mainstream, not the computer platform, as long as you can handle it/know it.
But having a new AmigaOS would be cool, on new hardware, as it is by definition more intuitive than Linux will still be in years to come, unless KDE has anything to do about it (a KDE 4 Distro would rock the world).
