The Register says that Sendo junks MS smartphone and joins Nokia camp. Sendo, the UK handset maker was supposed to launch its Z100 MS 'Stinger' handset this month into Spain and Italy. Sendo today announced that it's stopping all development on the Windows for Smartphone 2002 platform. It is instead signing a licence for Series 60, the Nokia smartphone platform erected upon the Symbian OS. I guess this means no Amiga Anywhere for Sendo phones.

Sendo junks MS smartphone : Comment 58 of 60 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Manou on 09-Nov-2002 12:36 GMT | I really don't see any problem with Sendo not building
a Windows Smartphone.!!!
AmigaAnywhereruns on top of JAVA, so theoretically any JAVA
enabled computer can run AmigaAnywhere.
Amiga Inc said it would run on Sharp Zaurus (LINUX & JAVA), the Pocket
PC (Windows CE & JAVA) and Psion Netbooks (EPOC/SYMBIAN & JAVA).
Now if you look at the Communications industry, all of the big players
there have licensed the SYMBIAN (formerly EPOC) OS!
Really all the big names ar there: Nokia, Phillips, Samsung
Siemens, Sony-Ericsson, Motorola, Kenwood etc.
So one can say that 90% of the mobile phones to come will run
with EPOC 6.0 or 7 (like the Ericsson P800).
That's a much bigger market than MS could ever reach with its
PocketPC/WinCE phones.
How many Windows Phones will be built? 2, 3 or 5???
Second: PocketPC/Win CE isn't as stable as MS makes us believe!
Till now I've seen no Windows OS which was rally stable, not even XP.
(Xtended Problems).
Compard to Linux or Amiga OS or EPOC/Symbian.
The different Psion PDAs I have, have never crashed!!!
The OS is extremely stable and it exists even longer than
Windows!!!!
Now that Sendo will use the Nokia Series 60 platform is just
the Symbian/EPOC version 6 or 7 with another GUI!!!
So if Amiga Inc, can run AmigaAnywhere an the Psion Netbook
it can run on any Symbian/EPOC OS mobile phone!!!
Now it's up to Amiga Inc. to get there acts together and get
AmigaAnywhere out for Symbian.
They will reach 90% of all mobile phone users!
More info can be found here:
http://www.symbian.com
And if you are concerned about compatibility with Windows:
Symbian Docs (text, images, anims, presentations, sounds) are
industry standard and can read / write Windows compatible files.
That you can't say with PocketPC which isn't even compatible
with Windows itself!!!
note: No I'm not working for Symbian, Psion or whoever mentioned
above.
I just work with a lot of systems on a daily basis and I see
if a systems is stable and runs as it should!!!
And that is something that MS aren't able to do!
