Tom's Hardware links to the Amiga news. : Comment 33 of 36 | ANN.lu |
Posted by stevieu on 14-Nov-2002 16:27 GMT | I really do think I'll stop visiting this site now.
I don't even know why I posted that comment here, to be honest. As Amiga even said, when they tried clearing things up on sites like this, they would just be flamed. But, they also got flamed for not doing so, so how are they supposed to win? The fact is; they can't. Not when there are so many small-minded people out there. I don't blame them for keeping quiet.
I know some people have their fingers crossed for Amiga to fail, but that's just pathetic. OS4.x needs funding & investment from the DE, if it is ever to reach OS5 level. Remember the idea behind the "digital revolution" & "write once, run everywhere..."? DE integration - Amiga chose to allow the OS to be developed on, for future versions, as a host for the DE in times to come.
If AmigaOS was to enter a general consumer market by itself, who do you think would be interested? Who would want to invest in it, when all it is to them, is "just another OS"? The DE is a key part to its future. For example, the M$ deal will bring in new investors, push the Amiga name back into the market and allow OS4.x to make its presence when it's ready for such a release. Without the DE, OS4.x would most probably follow the likes of BeOS and the others...
>>or that he doesn't even doubt to throw in some absolutely meaningless >>marketing numbers (from some clueless lawyer chattering about "kernel message >>signalling speeds").
I commented on such a topic, because firstly, they are not meaningless numbers. OS4 is not just a sraight port, but much more than that - Ben Hermans also pointed this out very clearly.
>>Just look at Eyetechs price for a IDE 16x CD Burner, its over twice the cost >>of a 24x LiteON cd burner from PCWorld.
Typical remark, not even worth commenting on...You should be able to work out the reasoning behind that one yourself.
Here is to Amiga & Hyperion. Here is to a bright future. Here is to the M$ deal.
