According to Irmen de Jong, the AmigaPython website maintainer, the Python programming language may be included as standard with AmigaOS 4.0.
From the AmigaPython site:
UPDATE november 2002: from very reliable sources I know that AmigaPython might become part of the new Amiga OS 4.0 ! What AREXX was for AmigaDOS 2.x and 3.x, AmigaPython might be for the next generation of Amiga OS (and much more powerful of course)
Further information about Python is available at the Python Home Page.

AmigaOS 4.0 to include Python? : Comment 35 of 94 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Petr Krenzelok on 25-Nov-2002 10:54 GMT | In reply to Comment 32 (- GALAXY -): Perl is dead from AmigaOS perspective. If it lives in Unix underground, being mainly usefull on server consoles, so be it, but Perl would be imo strategic decision failure as far as AmigaOS is concerned ... too cryptic, too bloated ...
Look, we all would like to see our preferred languages to be used. I am completly rebol addicted, but still I think, that Python would be better option for AOS - it is free and will probably offer better app integration.
Rebol is turning more into communication platform, building GUI apps is relatively easy and I think it would be good if Hyperion would talk to RT to port Rebol/View to new OS, or Amiga will miss some nice cross platform apps ...
Cheers,
Petr |
