According to Irmen de Jong, the AmigaPython website maintainer, the Python programming language may be included as standard with AmigaOS 4.0.
From the AmigaPython site:
UPDATE november 2002: from very reliable sources I know that AmigaPython might become part of the new Amiga OS 4.0 ! What AREXX was for AmigaDOS 2.x and 3.x, AmigaPython might be for the next generation of Amiga OS (and much more powerful of course)
Further information about Python is available at the Python Home Page.

AmigaOS 4.0 to include Python? : Comment 4 of 94 | ANN.lu |

Perl and Python are different languages and have different strengths and weaknesses. They shouldn't be compared too closely unless you think comparing ARexx and C is constructive. IMHO both ought to be included as standard with all modern operating systems.

Well, "embed" is not the right word here, because I wouldn't like to see any of AmigaOS embedded at all. However, I agree that gcc should be included with the OS and the users given the option of installing it from the AmigaOS distribution CD. I think selling a separate developer's CD with all the development material is a mistake and discourages the casual programmer from "having a go". |
