According to Irmen de Jong, the AmigaPython website maintainer, the Python programming language may be included as standard with AmigaOS 4.0.
From the AmigaPython site:
UPDATE november 2002: from very reliable sources I know that AmigaPython might become part of the new Amiga OS 4.0 ! What AREXX was for AmigaDOS 2.x and 3.x, AmigaPython might be for the next generation of Amiga OS (and much more powerful of course)
Further information about Python is available at the Python Home Page.

AmigaOS 4.0 to include Python? : Comment 50 of 94 | ANN.lu |

Thank about it this way: how was ARexx included in OS 3.5 and 3.9?
I could be wrong, but AFAIK the license for ARexx allows it to be distributed with AmigaOS, irrespective of the actual version (as long as it's above the version it was first distributed with). I'm certainly not aware of any special licenses being taken out for 3.5/3.9, but then considering who put those versions together, I guess that doesn't mean much.
I suspect distributing ARexx with AmigaOS4 is probably still legal, but it can't be modified or ported to PPC, hence the need for a long-term replacement. |
