According to Irmen de Jong, the AmigaPython website maintainer, the Python programming language may be included as standard with AmigaOS 4.0.
From the AmigaPython site:
UPDATE november 2002: from very reliable sources I know that AmigaPython might become part of the new Amiga OS 4.0 ! What AREXX was for AmigaDOS 2.x and 3.x, AmigaPython might be for the next generation of Amiga OS (and much more powerful of course)
Further information about Python is available at the Python Home Page.

AmigaOS 4.0 to include Python? : Comment 69 of 94 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Don Cox on 25-Nov-2002 18:05 GMT | In reply to Comment 57 (SimoAmi): "How about thinking ahead and using a leading programming/scripting
language. Such as Java interpreted. "
You can use any language so long as somebody writes the routines
needed to address the message ports in Amiga programs. (And the other
port routines needed, such as checking what ports are open.)
It seems the guy who made the Amiga version of Python already did
this. Maybe his code can be used as an example for other languages.
There is nothing about the messages that go from a script to an Amiga
program (and back) to make the ARexx syntax compulsory.
(You can also write Java byte code using the Rexx syntax - see
NetRexx.) |
